I bought one of these recently for a friend. I wanted the 2nd generation model with the switch to turn off the speaker sim, thinking that would give him another option. Turns out that the speaker sim on this unit is not like turning off the cab IR in a modeler. The speaker sim in the Liverpool actually makes it sound brighter & gives it the characteristic Vox speaker sound. Turning it off so that you can run the pedal into the front of an amp makes it darker & without the characteristic speaker tone. For our purposes (running into FOH instead of using his AC30 mic'd), we'll never turn that speaker sim off.
So, if I had it to do again, I'd buy the 1st gen model and save some money. YMMV.
