Switch between instrument and line level

I'd like to plug a microphone into the front of my Axe-Fx, but it's reserved for instruments only. It's been mentioned that it has some pre-processing to remove noise. I was wondering if it'd be possible to bypass this. If so, we could put a switch in that loop and throw it on the front faceplate, essentially allowing us to alternate between instrument and line level.

I would think however that you could use a mic/pre to jack the signal up to line level and use the rear line level input on the Axe-Fx to accomplish the same end.
