Sudden Volume Drop on FM9 — Both Outputs Affected

Hi everyone,

I’m using a Fractal Audio FM9 and have been experiencing the following issue:

In the middle of playing, the volume suddenly drops by about half — on both Main Output 1 (L/R) and Output 3 (L/R). This happens completely randomly, without touching any controls or presets.

After some time, the volume returns to normal on its own.

This problem has been occurring for roughly three months now.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?
Any idea what could be causing it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Does it happen on more than one patch? Does changing the patch correct the issue? What are connected to when it happens? Does it happen with just headphones? Do you have an expression pedal connected when it happens? Is it being used as a volume control? Expression pedal pots can become intermittent and could cause this.

A few things potentially can cause similar effect:
1. Expression pedal issues and/or guitar volume pot issues
2. Controller such as Envelope or Pitch Controller assigned to some level or gain control in the preset
3. Controller such as LFO assigned to some level or gain control in the preset
4. Some block types have setting which might change the volume, like "Auto-swell" in the Volume block potentially can have similar effect with certain settings.

The first one you'll have to check manually, maybe by trying with a different gear. I had similar with one of my guitars, volume pot was the trouble, so my money on this unless it never happens with any different gear.
The second and third one you can check in the "Controllers" Tab of the Editor - Click on Controllers, select "Modifiers", and see if there are any controllers assigned in your preset. If yes, check this setting. It might be that such Controllers gradually goes from one number to another and the volume changes as the result. Or maybe try different preset as @Jim Amsden suggested - if the issue is gone, it's not the first option.
The last one can only be checked manually as well (not likely but why not check).
