Storing FC-6 in a rack?

Smittefar

Axe-Master
I apologize, if this has been asked a thousand times - I did a search, but nothing came up.

FC6 is 88 mm high, 2 rack units is 89 mm.

So my plan is to get a 6U rack for the III. Wireless for guitar and in-ears go in the first unit, III goes in the next three units, and that leaves 2U at the bottom. I'd like to use those 2U to store the FC6 along with cables and a microphone. There's room in the bottom of the rack, but ideally I'd like to have a rack shelf that I just pull out to grab the FC6. Maybe mount the FC on velcro, so it does not tumble around inside the rack during transport.

Has anyone done something like this? Any thoughts? Any experience.

I intend to get this rack https://www.thomann.de/intl/gator_grr6l.htm and the rack shelf/drawer could be this one https://www.thomann.de/intl/thon_rackdrawer_1.htm

I had a laptop on one of those drawers... they are heavy. I don’t think you’ll get the unit in because of the close dimension issue of 88 vs 89m. That draw will eat some of that.

I just had a thougt that I might put the drawer on top - The rack should have a little more space on top rather than the exact 89 mm in 2U space.

@Smittefar, I think you might get problems with this, it will be very tight and that the FC-6 might not fit in a 2U space, but I haven't tried it - if you make it work please let us know.

How deep is your wireless guitar and IEM transmitters ?
If they are shallow and you are up for running some tight cabeling in the back of the rack, you just might be able to fit the Axe III in the top 3U's of the rack, fint the 2 wireless units at the top 1U on the back of the rack, and then have 3U for a rack shelf or drawer to store the FC-6, cables and mic, with room t foam fit those for safe transport.
The SKB has an extra 2,5 cm of installation depth over the Gator.
Then of cause you'll have to take the back lid of when playing and fold the antennas upward, but it could work.

Alternatively you could go for something like the Thon 6U 50 (cm depth) rack and mount a roller on it your self - heavier but sturdy, cheap and would give you 50 cm of installation depth.
You could do a custom order from thon for a 7U rack if you want the wireless on the front of the rack and either way you could do a custom order Thon with the lightweight material to save weight (name escapes me right now), still more sturdy than the Gator you linked to.

Here is the rack and roller :

You might get this done before I get the time to redo my rack so please let me know which way you go and how you like the end result.

Great thoughts rocket brother. It's a good point today the wireless units could be installed in the back.

I am now pretty sure, I can make it work with 6U, I just have to have it in my hands to see where everything goes.

If you run into trouble fitting it in a 6U after all, PM me, I have an alternative idea in that case, but would prefer to explain it viking tongue if it comes to that :)

There's progress. Just got all the rack parts, and the first thing I did was to test, if the FC6 fits. It does.

I am going to cut some holes in the rack shelf, so the FC sits 5 mm lower. I may also cut a little bit off the track itself. I will fixate the FC on the shelf with Velcro, so it's easily removed and put on the floor.

Any more updates on this? Thinking of doing something similar myself. Maybe something that could come completely out to set on the floor.

Was there a reason you are trying to bring it down 5 mm lower? Was something rubbing, or was it just preventing the use of velcro?

Yes - I completely forgot this this thread - I have it working quite well now, but I did have to cut some aluminum off my rack , because the buttons were getting too close. I will make some illustration later

Slight update. I have been using this setup for half a year now. I had to take a little bit of the aluminum of the rack lock bar, and I modified the rack shelf to take the straps. Velcro alone was not enough.

It is very easy to set up like this.

Only downside is that it's heavy as f...

But when I had my AX8i had both a board and a big case with cables. Now I have a heavy rack, but I also sure all cables in there, so there's one less thing to carry
