Steve vai Building the Church intro preset help

i think you can get close if you use the arpeggiator

the trick will be to tie the "run" parameter to envelope, so you can retrigger the cascades by playing notes in the right rhythm

i had a quick go and i think that's the way to do it

Do you mean using the arpeggiator to play the notes for me?

I was talking about the tone, there seems to be someking of chorus going on that I don't know what it is

Anyway thanks for looking at it! :)

yeah, sorry i thought that's what you meant!

there is something funny about it though....it sounds to me like he's sampled himself and he's triggering the notes. the note at the very top of the run sounds like it's been pitch shifted. it also sounds like it's been multi-tracked...maybe with two slightly different sounds, giving that slight chorus effect

i know he plays it live using two handed tapping, but it doesn't sound like that to me on the album...it's way too clean

sim

actually, that's a really nice lead sound he has on that track too. sounds a bit like he's using a room mic instead of a close mic on the cab.

I would be happy enough to have the sound he has live

Anyway I'll work on it, I just posted to know if maybe someone had a quick answer

Thanks a lot

Btw I love the sounds you're getting of your axe-fx!

I think that's a guitar and a synth part. Keep your eyes on Tony McAlpine on the keyboard in the clip.

Oh, that could make sense... unfortunately

But on the first "solo" there seems to be the same tone, sounds like its coming from the guitar.. humm

Come on Steve, we know your lurking the forum, tell us how you do it ;)

Some detail on how it was recorded: http://www.vai.com/realillusions/01buil ... hurch.html I think there's a synth tone in the left channel, another an octave higher in the right channel, distorted gtr. center and a clean tone with medium-width auto pan. Here's a clip processed with Amazing Slow Downer's vocal remover function, which makes the L/R synth a little easier to hear and the clean gtr. (or whatever it is) fade in & out of each channel: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28651/btcintro.mp3 Some dist/clean blend with detune & octave shift might be a good starting point. I don't think the Ultra synth would be very useful if the goal is the original sound. Its quick portamento gets kind of distracting.
