Standard value for expression pedal pot? (DIY stuff)

I recently bought a EV-2 and it has a 100k pot in it. And my own knock up expression pedal has 10k, cause that's what was available at the time. The circuit I built to feed the expression pedal into the ADC port of the micro doesn't play well with both. It runs a few resistors to step the range of input voltage down to say 0-4v so I can detect a "unplugged port" at 5v. But with the higher resistant of the EV-2 the gap between unplugged and full value basically disappears.

So is 100k the standard or do people manage to make circuits that cope with a wide range of expression pot values?

Standard (meaning the most commonly used) is in the 10K to 20K range. 100K is unusually high IMO, but not technically wrong, it just won't necessarily work well with all equipment.
