SPDIF Connection for Wiring FX Loop

Is it possible to use the SPDIF connections to route another digital processor in the Axe FX II effects loop? I assume if this were possible the signal quality would be superior as compared to the standard 1/4" cable method. Thanks in advance for any insight you can give me on this.

The spdif input can only be switched to input1 (see block diagram in the user manual page 180), you could get out from the grid fx loop on SPDIF out but then you would come back on input1. Maybe this could be an added function someday (switch-connect SPDIF in to input 2). So for now it seems you could only have a SPDIF processor in front or after the AXe-FX
