Sound problems

Hi. I go from Axe fx3 as audio input interface in Logic Pro (input 2 mono), sounds good via speakers and headphones, I play back and the recorded sound is dull and needs EQing with plugins. So far I manage somehow, but it's frustrating and obviously I do something wrong. Any ideas? Thank you.

Any chance that when you record, you're monitoring quietly enough that you're hearing your strings acoustically adding some brightness?

That was one of my first thoghts, but unfortunately that's not it. I cranked up volume, played hi-gain, used headphones and still no joy.

Are you familiar with recording and settings?
Not that I can help you much, but I first tried a few days ago with the FM9 (USB into laptop, outs into Yamaha THR-10 aux for now).
Worked perfectly as a monitor and played back identically.
These were my settings for Reaper...

I recorded in 16-bit, but you can also choose 24 and 96 somewhere.

I use Antelope Synegry Core as main interface and Axe FX only when I record guitars or bass. That's when I use Antelope as output and Axe as input in my DAW. Overall the guitar signal goes from Axe to computer and DAW via usb, then from computer to RME ADI pro 2 via optical and from RME to monitors via XLRs. Perhaps the signal gets degrades somewhere along the way, but I don't see why it should.

If it's not subtle, maybe your computer has an audio out/headphone out to try? Meaning: troubleshoot piece by piece.
If that works, at least you know it recorded well.
