Apparently done without reverb, but compression and editing are all in evidence. It just goes to show the power of the acoustic space you record in!

Might have a look at snopes though because I'm a wee bit sceptical.... ;)
 
Yeah, I've wondered about that video myself. Close-miked drum sound when there are no mics within 10 feet of the drum kit, the car that passes silently within inches of the drums, the occassional split background with a soccer field on one side and an industrial complex on the other...
 
There is something about the tails of the reverbs in the edits that reminds me of a Lexicon unit.

I don't know why, but that was the first thing that occurred to me about 15 seconds into watching this.

The ratio of direct sound to reverb is also a dead giveaway that this was not one or two ambient mics in different environments that made these recordings.

Also the big hits on the snare that leave a long reverb trail in certain environments would also make the hi-hat more of a smear and it would lose its articulation.
