Saw Toto this weekend

In Montreal at Place des Arts.
Top to bottom one of my best shows ever.
First show where I was totally into the songs that I didn't know.
Luke is possibly one of the coolest cats I've seen onstage. Goes without saying how insanely good he is.
7 piece - all top notch musicans - 3 original members (Luke , Paige, Porcaro)
Joe Williams on vocals - pretty much hit every note.
BG vocals were great too.
At one point Luke is introducing the band and goes into their history of how they started out - really interesting and makes you realize the pedigree of these guys.
Don't miss this lineup if they show up in your town.

A lot of years of experience up on that stage. No substitute for it. Glad to see Toto still doing what they love to do.

Completely agree with you, I saw them June 10th at Casino Rama (just north of Toronto). Best show I've ever seen. Luke was on big time and his tone out of the Bogners was to die for. Joe was a standout and the rest of the band was supper tight. Couldn't imagine a better show.

Are you talking about Richard Paige ? Not an original member, that would have been David Hungate ( Bass ). AFAIK, Luke and Paige are very good friends and have been for years .... Luke ALWAYS wanted Paige in the band as the lead vocalist, but in 1983 / 1984 ( or so ) he turned it down and they settled on Fergie Frederiksen ....

I love and respect their talent in Toto and all the stuff they did well beyond that band...

But....

To me- maybe I've just become 'self actualized' as a guitar player

But all the people playing strings and hitting things or pressing keys don't matter- a band is really about the singer...

So- I can't see Styx or Toto because- it's not really them...

ACDC/Van Halen are different...they had eras of singers... and success with both...

Guns N Roses are also different- I don't want just a singer and replaceable cogs either...
Like Guns and Roses the last 10 years, Fuel, Third Eye Blind, and many many others....

BUT- If we're talking about Toto- I wanna hear the guy that sang the hits... Lukather- great guitarist- and great singer too- but- Bobby Kimball is Toto (sorry)

I saw Bobby Kimball a few years ago with Toto and he was great but Joseph Williams also sang on quite a few of their hits. Actually live there is not much comparison, Joe easily blows Bobby away and is a much more versatile singer. This is a multi-talented band with Luke and Paich handling their share of vocal duties, nothing lost there live without Bobby in the band (sorry).

Best vocals I've heard in a long time. Williams totally delivered.
Unfortunately Steve's voice has not stood the test of time, but he did not sing that much.

Great band. One of the best music videos I saw on Netflix was Toto live -- I think, in Europe. Great version of My Guitar Gently Weeps on that and much more.

Saw them a few years back here in Denver. It was a music festival and bands were on every street. People kept coming over to see Toto (over some very big acts...) Excellent show. They each got a 'spotlight' for musical interlude, and it was stoopid entertaining. Luke was feeling it, and seemed to extend solo's almost every song.

(I did notice that they had a background vocalist *sort* of hidden that took the very high parts of some of the songs, but it was so artfully done that it was VERY hard to notice.)
