A true innovator, this guy made some major foundational steps in electronic music making that many a company has built upon since. He had a sense of humor, so it's interesting he passed on April 1st... wasn't sure if it was true or not at first! Can't help but think he'd have enjoyed that. Great musician, who loved music. RIP, sir.

A Boss HA-5 playbus into a home stereo was my first "guitar" amp. I was FRFR from the start hehe.

RIP

Larry Morton my teenage friend and guitar teacher who is now President of Hal Leonard had nice things to say about Ikutaro.

"The music world lost a giant yesterday with the passing of Ikutaro Kakehashi, founder of Roland Corporation. From the devastation of WWII, he rose from the ashes and pioneered music technology more than anyone of his era: drum machines, synthesizers, samplers, digital recording; he created hundreds of creative tools for musicians. I first met Taro in 1986 when I moved to LA to work for Roland, which began a 31 year friendship. He inspired me, along with many others, to focus of the 'music' side of music business. He impacted my life and I'm forever grateful. A few years ago, Hal Leonard published his autobiography and he honored me with a photo from our first meeting in Japan. His words and his passion will stay with me forever."
