Red Wirez "Tone Recipe Formula" Sharing Thread

Hello there,
Great job from all of you guys! I just got the redwireze irs and i may say that i like them alot.

To Scott: The link you gave at the first page of this post does not work anymore. Do you happen to have another one?
I'd like to use some of your recipes and i don't seem to find them all in one place.
Thank you very much!

Hi arathorngr,
some folks stopped mixing IRs in the meantime and get good results with using 1 RW-IR and 1 stock IR. That's my observation, too.
Would be easier to start with ... ;)
Only a thought ...
Have fun with the endless possibilities.

Micha

EDIT: Don't forget to get into Radleys PEQ blocking tip.

For a good Marshall cab I am using one of the three following Red Wire 'mixes'. They are all 50/50 between two cabs, so nothing real complicated.

Old school Vintage Marshall Cab: G12M-R121-CapEdgeOffAxis-2" with G12Ls-421-Cone-3"
70's Marshall Cab: G12M-R121-CapEdgeOffAxis-2" with T75-421-Cone-3"
Modern Marshall Cab: G12M-R121-CapEdgeOffAxis-2" with OrangeV30-R121-CapOffAxis-3"

Have fun with it. I am using them in a stereo cab block panned 25%R-25%L, but you could just mix them and use them as a mono-hi-res too.

Thanks Scott! I am having a lot of fun with this. After buying the basic three that you recommended, I just bought another three this morning. Since the price keeps going down with more subsequent buys, I'm pretty sure that I'm going to end up with all of them. :D
Can you recommend a Fender IR for me?

Just wanted to bring this one back.
Just bought the RedWirez BigBox series and am looking for some great recipes to mix in their MixIR

I am looking to get close to my Scumback M75/H75 cab. Best sounding cab I own.

But all other suggestions and recipes are welcome!

OK folks - straight off the stove and outta the rabbit hole.

Went back and using the most EXCELLENT little mixer app on the Red Wire site (registered owners only) I came up with a slew of mixed cabs to use as mono hi-resolution cabs.

And without further ado, here is what I am using:

 That was some rabbit hole, Thanks Scott!
I still use a lot of your older "SP" mixes that work really well, so I'm sure these will find regular spots on my "user cab" section.

I've had all my old notes out (and I have folders (real life old-school folders, not on the computer) full of what I went through. Reviewing that, trying most of the older formulas out and then spending some time breaking things down... these sound really good; at least to my ear. They are basically a variation on a theme from most of my older formulas; nothing here is really revolutionary at all. I'm liking the results.

I'm going to try running one mixed mono-cab in high resolution for most of my presets; and this really turned out well to my ear.

How are you squeezing in that 11th and 12th IR? Thanks for posting I may try some of those out.

Depends on the gig/session. Just set it up accordingly.

I don't take 10 cabs out when I play live with analog rigs... so I can't complain!

Very cool! Thank you Scott!
Just curious though, what happened to the very popular Royer R121 in these mixes?

Just curious though, what happened to the very popular Royer R121 in these mixes?

The R121 adds a lot of bass that I almost always end up filtering out via a PEQ block. So I just went with what 'works' for me. These cab mixes fit my 'keep it simple' motto and they work. They are not the 'pretty' mixes that sound best when alone; they are however extremely effective for adding the color and character that works in a mix - live and recording.

IMHO, YMMV.

Been a while since I tried these mix recipes. I like them. Thanks for the update.

The UberV30T75 has a bit too much bass for me as a pure V30 cab (it's great with the Uber sim). So I'm using the V30s without T75 for the Shiva.

Gonna try these at the gig tonight.

Cool! And great answer thanks!

Scott, you also have a Soldano mix (Eminence Legend V12). Does that work for you?
Doesn't it sound "remote" and a little like there's phase cancellation going on?

I know of the RW note/recommendation about the Soldano IR, but even at 5"or 6" this IR sounds a little weird IMO.

Yea, I'm not too fond of it.

I use this one for my Soldano presets:

Scott, another one:

Did you ever try the Red Wirez TC30 IRs? Not the farfields but the close-mic'd ones.
They are included with some of the cabs (just 4 mic positions).
I'm running through some of them. These seem to have that punch of a real amp you're looking for / have obtained.
