Reamping USB vs SPDIF is one cleaner?

I have a Focusrite 18i8 gen 1 and have been reamping via spdif so to maintain 1 interface in my DAW. I feel that maybe it’s not as clean as it would be reamping via usb even though spdif is supposed to be digital.
Does anyone here know if there is a quality difference?
