Ready for the Amp Show

With Helix breathing down the neck of AX8 already...and it having an expression pedal already included.....then pricing strategy is very important as it will dictate the relative success or failure of the product? I can only assume that the continued thinking on pricing is what has delayed the pricing decision......as its a somewhat flawed and questionable strategy to take a new product to a pre-eminent show....and not have a price to announce?

Spot on.

I'll take Helix seriously when someone posts a clip that compares favorably to the AxeFx II.

No need for discussion -- just post a clip.

You see..I will only take EITHER of them seriously when I have heard them back to back and side by side in MY rig, with MY playing, on my gear.......THEN I will make a decision and feel qualified to comment on tones.......until then they are both unknown quantities to me.....as I can't rely on some substandard recording on an iPhone Mic ...played back through some PC speakers.....

...and for me that's only part of the equation......with THIS rig....tones aren't the be all and end all....sure I want it to sound good.......but it doesn't NEED TO BE FXII GOOD! controversial I know......but.......IF it can get 95% of the way there than that's good enough for me.....the key thing for an AX8 rig, or Helix for that matter.....is usability in a gigging environment as FOR ME, that's ALL I will be using it for......back home I will have a killer AXE FXII rig - plus all my tube amps and pedals etc.....but at a gig I want something that quick and easy to set up, is totally bombproof AND reliable..........and easy to use in any conditions......if it sounds nearly as good as my FXII then great.....but 99.99% of the audience wouldn't know if I was playing through a $50k rack and Marshall mega stack or a POD mini pedal through front of house......

So it's almost 3am, and I can't sleep, that's what you get for working at 5:30 in the morning everyday. I was in the fractal room all day yesterday. the featured device was the Axe-8, I heard it all day. You should have seen the expression on everyone's face, when they start to play this thing. It was the same expression, that you had when you opened your Axe-fx for the first time, and played your first chord. You realized that you just had an experience that was pure bliss. You would think that you would be sacrificing something when you play this device, you just don't. I will make a huge prediction here, once you can freely purchase it, you will all have one for sure. Save your pennies folks, and no need to look anywhere else, you will not be disappointed after you get this home.

One thing I am afraid of though.

there is going to be so many Axe-8 owners out there that our community is going to grow exponentially, I just hope they get a bigger forum server...;-)

I play churches, that's what I have done for the last 22 yrs, this is going to make my life so much easier, I can just have my stage movers, I'm not sure what else to call them, pick up my floor board after I play, and I will be in my car, heading home before the preacher says welcome, please introduce yourself to your neighbor in the third service. I know it's a win, win. I'm not sacrificing tone or feel, and I'm playing my best and I'm serving, I think I have all my bases covered.

When I was talking to Javier, he was like a little school kid, he said just think of the fly dates that I can do with this thing. I can see this thing making his touring life so much easier, when he flys.

these are random thoughts.

I'm already thinking, who's the best company to make a bag for this thing. Mono bags I'm talking to you. Get working on it.

Ps. Buy it, you will not be disappointed.

I want to say thanks to the Fractal team, I had a blast hanging out with them yesterday, I kept saying thanks for letting me hang out. This is the third time that I have gotten to just hang out and talk to everyone for an extended period of time. If you ever get a chance to do this, I suggest you make an effort to show up to one of these things. It's worth the effort to get to know the people behind the company you love to talk about. You find out early on, that are just like you pashonet about guitar and making a better mouse trap. They are not secretive, or stand offish in any way. They want to know, how you use it and want to know how much you love it.

i'm heading back home today, after I take my wife to the beach. If you can make it down and fill the seat that I vacated, please let people know why you love your Axe-fx.

peace out.

One more thing sorry, you know what I thought was really cool, was the switches on the device. I have the first version of the MFC, and these switches are nothing compared to the new switches that they are using now. Hard to describe, unless you had both sitting right next to each other to compare. I picked up the Axe-8 a couple times, and it had mass to it, definitely heavier then the MFC, it just felt solidly built. It will be the strongest thing built on your pedal board.

Does the AX8 have silent switches as on the MFC101 Mk3? I don't believe the Helix does and if the AX8 does, that would be a big advantage for me personally.

Yes they are the same switches as the MFC mk3. I had the first version and didn't realize what a difference they made. After buying Axe-8 I'm going to get the mk3, as I use the xlr(fast link) a lot. Having it built in instead of using the break out box, would be a major plus for me.

I'd agree, except that the AX-8 is running the same code as the AxeFx.

Until I hear otherwise, I'll assume that the Helix sounds at least as good as the HD500.

I played the Helix at Matrix yesterday. Andy had one there, I was kinda surprised by that actually. Now taking into account that I didn't have any of, let's say my own tones dialed, it still didn't even come close the AxeFx, which also had none of my tones. Sorry guys, I just wasn't impressed, wasn't. Maybe I am biased, and I surely am, but the AX-8 is basically the Axefx with 1 block of everything, verses 2 or more in the AxeFx. So in essence it's half an AxeFx, but the EXACT same code, hardware, software, sound, whatever u wanna call it. And I will personally take that over the Helix any day of the week, period............. AND I should probably mention that I used to be an international product specialist for Line6, so I actually have reason to be biased the other way......... am I'm not........ It's Fractal or death for me guys:pride:

I would like to reiterate Scott's thoughts that yes, every one at Fractal yesterday was as down to earth, real, and friendly as could possibly be. Scott, I wish I would have met you since I've been a worship director for 21 yrs. Yup, can't wait to have one for my team:) I may go back today, but have only a small window between church this morning and rehearsal with my secular band this evening. I see so many questions on this thread that I didn't think to ask Cliff:(

Thanks for this one. Helpful. When you say AX8 has one block instead of two, are you just talking about amps and cabs? The FX8 allows two of several blocks, subject to dsp limits. Does it work that way on the AX8 as well?

My understanding is you can use simultaneously one of each. 1 wah, 1 amp, 1 stereo cab, 1 delay, 1 reverb, 1 chorus, etc............

Thats perfect fore me ,I am guessing that with cab lab you could still get a pseudo multi cab by mixing down the element of 2 or 3 different speakers into the one stereo IR

I wonder if some of the blocks in the amp/cab effects will have less parameters .I know Cliff had mentioned if i did a cab block today I would consider no mics as most new IRS have multi mice baked in

I could be wrong but I remember reading something along those line .Lo/Hi cut and the IR were really all he used.
