Question about speaker contrast

So, the golden rule in getting good recordings seems to be 'get the best reference monitors you can'. Recently, I got what I think are some good ones, and my current patches sound pretty good on them. Then I go back to PC speakers and they don't. Conversely, the patches I created when using my PC speakers sounded great on them, but a little muffled on my reference monitors. Most people's here patches sound great on both. I think many of them are not/hardly post-processed. What am I missing?

For me, in order to get apples to apples on using speakers, they need to be in the same room and position and at the same spl.

So IMO, your issue could be related to where you are listening and how loud.

When I hear a deficiency in the audio spectrum, nine times out of ten, it is from a hype at the same frequencies where the mix / recording was done. (The opposite is true too, if I hear too much of a freq band, its because where it was recorded or mixed has a deficiency in the same band).
