Queen tribute show

Enjoyed everything but the Lead vocals, I knew a guy in town who could Nail Freddy so I suppose I am a bit picky about vocal covers of the band:) Great sounding tones though from the Axe and the Backup Singers do a very fine job, drums, bass sound solid too.

I'm going to be honest...

I'm shocked how great this was
I'm really really impressed- and I'm not easily amused esp from cover bands on this forum.

Singer can hit it and the band sounds flawless...

I see a Road King, my choice of amp too
I'm not a fan of the JVM- You'd get better results out of a DSL and the Axe than a JVM.

Two thoughts.
1- Whoever is playing the JEM- Get like push pull knobs modified to switch the phase of the pickups
I have an Ibanez RG with 3 humbuckers, each i'm able to split and switch the phasing
I notice that is more key to the MAY sound than anything else

2- The axe still has yet to satisfy my quench my Brian May tone, so I have my Vox VMB-1 Brain May Recording amp
which I would pickup and use as a treble booster or use as a preamp in addition to the axe...
If you ran it in the effects loop and tonematched the recordings in a block after- mixed with phasing out the pickups- you'd probably shit yourself with perfect tone

Nice job.. I have a queen act up here in the US... Here is our vid.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNbvU9i33S4 What i find interesting is our lead singer is TO LOUD as well. I tried to get the guy mixing it to balance it better.. but he was stubborn, LOL said that's they way it should sound and of course since he has been doing this all his life, what do i know. I CALL BS.. i have the 32 track raw recordings and have been remixing my self.. Sounding WAY better.. lots of work, but i guess if you want it done right, you do it yourself.. LOL Anyway.. This is my attempt at a brain may tone.
Not much to it.. Treble boost in front of Vox AC 30 all tone controls all the way up, with a 2 X 12 Blue and silver mix cab .. a little chorus and delay.. a lot of it comes from the Guitar to be honest..

How about we all go comment on youtube about how loud the vocals are in the mix... And it needs more guitar solo's!

;)

Nah. Those comments will come anyway. It's pretty obvious.

Seriuously, as iconic as Freddy was, there were four people in that band. All had a great hand in their popularity, Brian's contributions should not be underestimated! Neither should John and Roger, of course. John actually played quite some other parts beside bass on their albums and wrote many of the hits.

Ya.. that guy is amazing.. I saw that audition a while back.. Some people got it.. some never will LOL.. but it's fun to try and realize how great these guys really were when you fall flat on your face after working for hours to get something right. I love listening to the Vocal only or Guitar only tracks that are on youtube and such.. really amazing stuff.. ALSO great place to get a tone match for a BM tone.. should you want one.

While we're posting queen cover videos and Brian May tone, I figured I'd post mine. We aren't a Queen Tribute, just a five piece cover band. Every now and then, we get some of our "real" musician friends together and put on a show of classic rock covers with orchestral arrangements. I'm using an Ultra. Funny thing is, both of these mixes have the same issues as the others posted here. Lead vocals way too loud. The harmony vocal ensemble parts really suffer as a result.

The Queen is around 1:21:00...

Now that singer kicks ass. Solid band in all regards, thanks for sharing:)

Here's why I'm the greatest guitarist on earth...

Because I know what people want... people like and want singers

I thought it was mixed perfectly- because people don't wanna see guitar players jerking off in the background and drown out the only thing they connect to...

It was mixed well- the vocals is what matters and counts- the rest is just background bullshit- you could replace the guitars with accordions and people would still focus on the singer...

In the big picture- us guitar players don't really matter all that much...
so I've attained guitar-nirvana being able to realize this
