I took up bass a few months back and as some of you will note spent a lot of time posting here about dialling in tones. I eventually got something I was pretty happy with using both AxeIII and pedals.
I had always used a compressor with my patches, but thinking they didn't make any difference because "well its just compression lol" I put the studio FF compressor on and just forgot about it.
Recently, Ive been trying to refine tones and kept coming across mentions of this legendary FET compressor. I remembered the axe3 has one of these. I looked at it before and dismissed it for the most stupid reason which was:
-- LOL, this one doesn't even have a cool graph - it must be shit!
Well anyway, yesterday I was messing around and swapped to the FET model and HOLY F&^%$ING BALLS?!!?!?!??!
It's like all of a sudden I got punched in the face with tightness and bright clear tone in the low end that Ive been dreaming of. I actually cant believe that something I thought had zero effect on tone shaping made such an awesome difference.
