Primus Jerry was a Race Car Driver guitar tone?

My brother is getting a 6 string bass soon and we are going to be playing a few Primus songs. I'm a metal head by nature so I know that the amps I usually use will not work for this particular guitar tone. What amp and pedals do you recommend I start my journey with to achieve this tone? Any advice would be appreciated.
 
If you play sloppily that will get you most of the way there. ;-) interestingly Larry Lalonde's background is in metal as he used to be in a metal band called Possessed.

I'm sure if you Google his gear you can find out exactly what he used during that period. He is mostly supporting Les Claypool's craziness so there isn't that much depth to his tone as Les is taking up most of the room. I've seen them twice before and I could have sworn I saw some Boogie stuff up there with him but it's been many years and the concerts run together.
 
I believe back in the Seas of Cheese era he was using a Marshall stack with a JCM 800 or 900 but I'm not quite sure.
