The link above provides a preview release of the new Factory Presets for the FM9 running firmware 8.02 (or newer). These presets are based on the latest Axe-Fx III factory presets and include new updates. We have also included selections from past Gift of Tone releases at the end of Bank C, now titled “RE-GIFT OF TONE!”

Special thanks to everyone who contributed to this project, especially @fremen and @yek and everyone mentioned in the Axe-Fx III presets release thread.

As always, we strongly recommend backing up your current presets before performing any major update or installation.

Thank you for choosing Fractal Audio Systems!

PS: This release is a "preview" for two reasons: first, the firmware is still in beta, and second, some presets may require a bit of CPU reduction to run properly on the original FM9 (the NON-Turbo version.) @austinbuddy has agreed to check for this; any resulting variants will be released separately.

Thanks Fractal! I'm impressed, and enjoying some of the FX III presets already, but always scared of a lockup because of high CPU usage. Thanks @austinbuddy for checking them!!
Tip: I especially discovered and enjoy playing the Two Stone J35 preset (052) last few days :)

Hi,
Thanks for all of this!
Wondering, when you say at the end of bank C, does it goes into the 400s? Asking because that's where I put my personal presets

Public service announcement:
  • Turn up the volume when auditioning the factory presets. These are designed for stage volume, approximately 90-95dB. By not doing so you will be a prime victim for the dreaded Fletcher-Munson Effect.
  • The factory presets are configured to use an expression pedal connected via External 1, not directly to an internal FC pedal, to help ease the use of the presets across the three units. It might not seem logical at first but it helps in the long run. See p. 10 in the FC 6+12 Owner’s Manual for configuration information and an explanation.

I'm not an FM9 user, so I'm making some assumptions, but here are a couple of suggestions:
a. You can load up individual banks of 128 presets, using Fractal Bot, into whichever Bank you want (i.e. A, B, C or D). I do this all the time with my Axe-Fx, leaving my user presets in a Bank that I don't bulk upload presets to. When uploading using Fractal Bot, it lets you select the bank to load to. Using this method would load 128 presets at a time.
b. Most of the time I only upload select individual Factory presets, using Axe-Edit (or the FM-9 equivalent?) You just try out the ones you think you might like, and paste them into the slots you want them stored, and Save them. Works great!

I do not want to be a troll, but do you think Tim Pierce designed his preset for stage shows?
I have no idea what Tim did, but I doubt he did it at whisper-quiet levels; he has to be aware of Fletcher-Munson and the need for appropriate volume at this stage of his career.

And it is likely that prior to it being added it was auditioned by one of the team and if it didn’t sound good at the expected volumes it was adjusted appropriately.

In addition, it’s possible to audition individual presets from the factory bank files and then select and install them using Edit’s Preset Manager.
  1. Open Tools > Preset Manager then select an expanded factory presets bank file you want to examine on the desktop and drag and drop it into the left pane.
  2. The Manager will ask if you want it to scan the file so click OK.
  3. The presets will be presented in the left pane.
  4. The drop down menu at the top of that pane will give you options for the display order and more.
  5. Audition as desired.
  6. Select and drag presets to the slots in the right pane.
  7. Repeat as necessary.
  8. Save the presets to the modeler.
I might have missed something because I’m not at my computer but that’s the gist of it.

I played the Axe-Fx version of the presets on my FM9 and they were amazing. Thanks to everyone who made this possible, you guys rock! Great to have a version for the FM9. I really like the Vai one in Bank C, so check that one out!
Nice tip - the Vai one is really nice! I like Scene 3 with the drive block on!

Glad you like it ! Mr Steve made the most and delay blocks, I made the preset ;)
Fantastic tone!! One of the things I don't see enough of when it comes to Fractal reviews online or on YouTube is that a player like me: 40s, kids, busy job, not a professional gigger gets to try a new amp like this and go "where's that been all this time?" LOL. The discussions far too often revolve around does the tone match exactly, is it too many options/parameters. I can't tell you how many amps and effects I've tried that I will never own or probably even ever see in my life, and I get to try them and it has made me play more often, play different genres and frankly my playing has improved because of the inspiration. Very grateful to have an FM9 - thank you!
