one thing you could try is have a look in the amp block and see what the tonestack frequency is. it's usually around 650Hz. then when you go into the pre-eq, put your little mid bump at that frequency instead of 1000Hz. really tickles the amp in a nice way.
 
Been using this model for a while now, but haven't quite nailed the sweet spot. Definitely gonna try some of the tweaks you mention as I think it may help me get some of that missing "magic". Thanks!

This is great! Opens it up just that little bit more than the default.
