Picking the best expression pedal for Axe Fx II (wah, delay, reverb,..)

According to the manual, the MIDI Mate can pnly accept one expression pedal or switch, so the other will have to connect to the Ax-Fx directly.

Yep. This is the way to do it. The Rocktron products including the MIDI Mate use reverse polarity, so connect OUT 1 (the pedal out)on your SP1-R to the MIDI Mate with a TRS - TRS 1/4" cable and switch the polarity switch on the SP1-R to the reverse position (switch toggle forward). Connect OUT 2 (the switch out) to the input on the back of the Axe-Fx. Mission.
