Pedalboard Interface/buffer

Hello everone,
Just recently i got my axe fx III - really love it!! Now i am planning for a reasonable live set-up. I‘d like to build a rack with the Axe fx and so on and switching it with the fc12. My question is: because the fc 12 can be powered through the xlr cable, i probably do not need any powersupply on the board (i really like that idea). However, cause i do not want the guitar cable directly to the rack (cause of problems on bigger stages) i need some sort of bridge/box/Interface on to board from which i then would go to the rack. My first thought was a Buffer but: 1. i do not want to have any powersupply on the board (just the xlr & and Audio) and 2. i read somewhere that Cliff and others said that you don‘t want a buffer into the axe fx. Does it make sense to just plug the guitar in a passive pedalboard interface/junction Box and then to the Axe fx? Or is this a problem cause of two long cables and just a passive box? I hope that all makes sense! Thanks in advance for your help!!
