Paul Gilbert's tone in "I Still Have That Other Girl"

How does PG get his tone in this one? It's almost sounds like sustainer, but the overtones are sweet and natural. How would one go about dialing something like this in on the Axe?

did he use the marshall vintage modern on this cd or is it the laneys..

I'm pretty sure he doesn't use laneys anymore, he said he's using vintage moderns, but I have the dvd and there are plexis, jtms
Maybe because they looks better...
By the way my countdown to see him live is -15 days...... :D

Darn it, Paul's new DVD does not include a backing track for this tune. It does include a BT for "I can not tell a lie", though, which is another fine song (just not nearly as exciting in terms of tone).

And yes, Paul used a 2x12 Vintage Modern combo (+HotPlate) to record everything on this album. Heavier gain stuff is boosted with either Fulltone Soul Bender (I can not tell a lie) or with Fulltone OCD (Eudaimonia Overture). He also uses Xotic AC booster on some songs.

I believe there is a recent interview with Paul on Lick Library that shows his pedal board and he talks about the Marshall's he's using.

Go Gilberto san! Love his tone, technique, attitude and song writing!
