From what my brief internet searches revealed, it is a ring modulator on one track and not on the other.

Yes it was indeed a ring modulator as iommi explained in one of the documentaries…after they recorded the song and left..the sound engineer added a ring modulator to the solo to which sabbath had no idea until they heard it
