I've always loved that part of the song also, A real compressed, tight clean tone with some chorus. Sounds very up front like it was DI straight to the board.

If you listen closely to that middle part, it's at least double-tracked and one side plays a "g" in the middle and the other an "a", which contributes to the chorus effect.
