Overly resonant guitar?

I have a Schecter Japan NV-3-24-AL super Strat I got for a ridiculous price a few years ago.

It plays well and sounds nice with a quite cool switching system.

However, it has to be the most resonant electric guitar I have ever encountered.

While plugged in, it makes very obvious noises while switching pickups on the 5 way selector, when switching the mini toggle or the push/pull tone pot.

These aren't electronic sounds but actual noise from the body of the guitar.

Tapping the top is almost like an acoustic guitar!

It's not hollow or chambered as far as I can tell...

I posted an NGD thread when I got it:

Pickups are direct mounted to the body (which many of my guitars are) but not sure if that matters...

Would this bother you?

I know you said it's not electronic related, but sure does sound like microphonic pickup issue.

I bet it has non potted pickups.

If you have some old pickups laying around, swap one out to determine if it’s a pickup issue.
I'll check them out more closely.

Maybe they are not potted...

They're odd in that they are wrapped with a white tape. I've never seen anything like this before:

Got a fender japan doublenfat strat with a fender system 3 bridge and a locking nut. Anything with open strings can ring for a minute. I put a plate with Seymour Duncan p-rails. The P90 of these sound killer on this axe.

Unpotted pickups definitely can pick up vibrations. You could try cutting some thin pieces of surgical tubing to act like cushioning washers and put them under the pickups. That'd help isolate the pickup from anything coming from the body.

I think my PRS SC-245 has unpotted pickups and the bridge pickup is prone to feedback when I get too close to the speaker. It can squeal like an excited little girl. The next time I change its strings I'm going to replace the pickup springs with surgical tubing to dampen them and hopefully that'll fix the problem, otherwise it might get sent to timeout.
:)

I assume you've looked over the electronics? I fixed one guitar where the cavity was lined with copper tape (for shielding), but whoever installed it did such a bad job that it was acting microphonic. It was odd.

I'll check... I know I looked when I got it but I don't remember now.

Well, I think the pickups are potted - hard to say for sure without removing them but I believe a can see wax residue on the base plates.

Control cavity has shield paint... No copper tape. Everything appears neat, and very much untouched.

Playing around more with it I'm pretty certain it's the single coil that's the issue.

The noise is there with the full neck or bridge humbucker but much, much less.

On middle single coil it's very prominent and the pickup also seems prone to feeding back much more than the others.

I'll probably look at swapping that one as a first step.

I have a tele that does this. In my case, I have swapped the pickups many times and it is not directly related to the pickups

If you try to strum the strings hard and then mute them fast, does it still ring while unplugged?

If yes, then it might has something to do with the bridge or/and nut floyd locks.

Maybe you could try disconnecting the middle pickup to see if the problem improves.

I've had that issue before with another guitar. This is definitely not the same thing...
