I have three expression pedals. One is always used as a volume pedal. The other two end up being whatever I might need for a specific preset. One that I use in a lot of presets is a 0 to 4 dB boost. I put it at the end of the signal chain, and use it for times when the rest of the band gets carried away and I need to get a bit more volume when playing live. I also sometimes use a pedal for delay mix, delay feedback, tremolo mix, rotary speed, and amp gain (often lowering the amp output volume at the same time, so the overall volume stays the same).
