Opinion on mic placement on IR.

I'm a modern metal kinda guy. I got a redwirez big box pack. It contains a lot of mic and placements. I don't really have the time right now to listen to em all. So if you guys could give me a good staring point. That a lot of u guys use. Like cone or cap and what measurement. Thanks.

I usually start with the U87 mic at the CapEdge 1" with the Redwirez IRs for any given speaker and go from there.

For metal/rock I would use the Mesa Boogie or Marshall Cab as a starting point. Pick the SM57. CapEdge 0.5" and/or CapEdgeOffAxis 1"

Pick a stereo cab in Axe Fx, have one of them be Cap Edge 0.5" and the other CapEdgeOffAxis 1" Pan down the middle. Adjust volume of each individual one to taste.

Alternately you can also pick one of them in a Mono cab.

Either way, in the Cab Block, set the high cut to around 9000hz-12000hz. Play around with it to get it where you like it, but I generally discard anything over 11000 for modern rock/metal.

Set the low cut to 85hz-120hz depending on the amp block.

Use with Rectos, 5150 based models, etc for the typical modern metal sound.
