NGD - Home Made Desk for Axe-Fx

I wanted a workstation desk but didn't want to pay €1000+ so I decided to make my own for a fraction of the cost. Not exactly "Home made" but using sets and boards from Ikea my mate was able to put this together in a few hours with a few screws/glue and only sawing up 3 of the boards. I'm amazed how well it turned out!

The Axe-Fx II fits in snug underneath the speaker stand with enough room on top for more rack equipment.

I used 2 white boards cut in half and glued to the desk with a long board on top strong enough to hold a speaker.

I left enough room incase I upgrade to a bigger computer.

This is the icing on the cake for me and the main reason I built this desk. My midi keyboard just slides out now and can be pushed right into the back of the desk out of the way.

I'd really recommend building a desk to your own specs. Since everything isn't cluttered together and within reach it makes recording so much easier and I find myself playing and recording a lot more now that everything is setup the way I want it.

Pictures? I'm not seeing any.

Edit: Chrome on OS X is not liking img tags with PhotoBucket links I guess...

Can you post a link to the bucket? I'd really like to see what you did! Thanks!

Hey man, try viewing them in Safari, they are linked from my facebook page so that might be the problem.

wow, that's pretty much EXACTLY what I've got in mind for my home studio. I'm in the process of buying a flat and I've already got my "man cave" corner planned out. The only real difference is I was going to use 2 of these as speaker stands:

Nice!! I was contemplating something like that too.

looks great! i'd stick a couple of trimmed down mouse mats under those speakers though...

Cheers dude!!! Is that to stop vibrations? Could anything bad happen without sticking something underneath them?

yeah, it's a really cheap (but effective) alternative to those foam isolation pads that you can buy to put under your monitors. it just helps to stop vibrations from the speakers going into the woodwork and causing resonances that might be audible. use a couple of mats under each speaker. easy to cut to size as well. or spend 80 quid...it's up to you :)

I posted how much I liked this on TGP the other day, but I will reiterate it here.

I thought my snazzy glass desk was all 'cool', but I look at it now and realise that everything is ergonomically wrong. I've got to reach down way to the right to reach my Axe-FX which is perched precariously on an amp. I have to crane my neck just to look at the display.

It's all these little inconveniences that make it less enjoyable to try and record something or create a patch. If I had a desk like yours with everything in easy eye view, then it would be a pleasure to work on composing/creating...

Amazing! I've been sketching and designing a studio desk for a long time, but your idea is way cheaper and more convenient! Do you know what sets and boards you used exactly?
