Next best SS alternative to a Matrix GT1000FX?

I really like my ART SLA-1. Class AB & 100W per channel (130W at 4 ohms).

I’ve had it for decades with no issues, and it’s still in production.

I use it with two Mesa vertical 2x12’s loaded with 8-ohm Celestion F12M-150s. Sounds and feels great and I can still use power amp modeling and cab IRs.

Before using it with my AXEFXIII it was my wet amp for a W/D/W tube amp setup.

I haven't owned one of these but have heard good stuff about them. But, one crucial issue is that it has a fan. The CLA units are convection cooled.

Turn the volume up louder than the fan?

If the OP is properly pushing that Mesa cabinet it’s doubtful that fan will be heard. I’m not even sure if mine is running, I’ll have to look because I don’t think I’ve ever heard fan noise at a gig.

I getcha but I don't even like hearing the fan noise when I stop playing though.

Me neither, I've never heard the fan at all. I reckon if anyone can hear the internal fan at a gig, then the venue would be as quiet as a library!. The drunken punters at our gigs are usually enough to drown out a bagpipe convention, especially when they're eight or nine pints down :tongueclosed:

💯 Nothing like a drunken crowd 🤣.

Fan noise on the Matrix is a non-issue. Very quiet.

Nedávno som si kúpil FM9 a tiež Matrix GT1000FX 2U za výhodnú cenu. Funguje skvele, znie skvele a úžasne ovláda gitarový kabinet.

QSC PLD, QSC GX ...

The ART power amps are meant for reference monitors - i’ve thought about that route but havent proceeded.

Had some issues with matrix meanwhile got a SD PS700. Both sound really good and punchy.
However If you are running stereo cabs with different impedances, PS doesnt have seperate volume knobs for each cab. So you have to mess around with output balance in Fractal.

I had an SLA-2 before my Matrix.

Very good sound.

However, it is the heaviest and deepest 1U rack device I've ever encountered. There's no fan and a massive toroidal transformer inside.

And you have to use banana plugs or bare wire speaker cables.

If you rarely move it then it's a great option.

I have one of these and really like it. It's good for both, modelers and analog preamps. It's a little heavy for its size but sounds and feels great.

Whats the use of an AX7 tube typically found in preamp sections, in a clean hi headroom / low coloration power amp? Isn't there a risk of that AX7 distorting which would usually be unwanted in such a power amp context?
