New cab IR feature or "Why I hope it didn't take too much room"

Just curious how do you make an emulation/IR of a mic then ? Or how does Fractal do it ? In the AF you add a mike response to your cab block so seems to me its not an IR of a REAL mic placed in front of that cab when the IR was captured, correct or is it ?

I've wondered about this too ... ?

And .., I'm sure it's too simiplistic, but I would start by shooting the IR of a particular Cabinet w/ a reference mic. Then shoot the same IR with the mic you're interested in .... Compare the difference and apply the same difference to other Cabinet IR's ?

I dunno ..., could it be that simple ?

Prolly not ....

I tried searching for a previous thread about the cab block mic setting.

IIRC, the mic setting is not implemented as a convolution engine like the speaker portion is. I *think* the microphone emulation is either EQ or waveshaping? I'm guessing there but I'm almost positive it was stated in another thread that the mic emulation is not convolution.

And how would you IR an acoustic guitar for example??? You can't feed a 5 millisecond sweeping tone through it...or can you???
