The best reviewer:

It seems like an affordable candidate to carry as a backup of the FAS rig. You can load your favourite IRs and dial a couple of decent tones to save the night in the case something goes wrong

I'd rather have the FAS equivalent. Leon makes it sound good but that's pretty much with everything he plays thru \m/

@Piing what are your thoughts on the sy-200 vs the 300 or 1000?
I'm almost sold on the 200 but I'm such a tinkerer that I'm wondering if to go with the 300 or 1000 instead....
Love the form factor on the 200 but still quite a few things that aren't there..... 🤔

Sorry, I do not have experience with the SY-200 or SY-300. I've had the VG-8, VG-88 and GP-10, and now I have the VG-99 and the SY-1000 (I sold the VG-99 when I purchased the SY-1000, but soon I bought another one, out of nostalgia for some features missing at the SY-1000)

Looking at the specs, I see a huge jump from the SY-200 and 300 to the 1000, because these two are just oscillator based synths, while the SY-1000 adopts the V-Guitar technology from the Roland VG series (guitar modeling, alternate tunings, etc). Furthermore, it also includes the GT-1000 amp modeling and effects for the regular pickups, although having the Axe-FX I do not make any use of that part. I only use the Instruments part.

The SY1 is a cute toy. Pass.

The 200 I would only get if you want to approach the 300 level of functionality but pedalboard space is a premium.

The 300 is if you absolutely positively don't want to use a GK pickup. It's great. Slightly inflexible signal chain. For that matter; the 1000 has a mono loop (ugh) and it's more than a little clunky.

Other than that (and the way Boss does basically nothing with it's products post release); the 1000 is awesome. Excellent alt tuning and guitar modeling as well as guitar synth goodness. No real good implementation of pitch 2 midi. If that's a dealbreaker. Amp modeling holds it's own for me. Not the same league but damn good if you use the right amp model and forget about IRs.

The 1000 is also about as goldilocks of a floor board form factor as you can get, imo. 8 switches, perfect spacing in my mind. Lightweight.

Cliff should work up a polyphonic synth block (you know; in his spare time). It's fantastic as is but some poly would be :imp:

+1 That would be an excellent use of the spare time 🤗

There are 2 wishes:

1) Make the synth polyphonic
https://forum.fractalaudio.com/threads/synth-block-updates-polyphonic.136174/
https://forum.fractalaudio.com/threads/polyphonic-synth.152068/
(some guitarists repel that idea because they confuse it with pitch-to-midi, so they say silly things like "learn to play a keyboard" 😂)

2) Allow 6 instances of certain blocks (e.g.synth), for those crazy people that use a 6-way splitter with the hex pickup

I think I've probably already +1'd these 12 times each 👏 👏 👏 :D

Yeah I think the synth block can do with some polyphonic love indeed!
I honestly would love to make these sounds in the axe and I think it's more than capable. I might end up getting one of these just to satisfy that guitar synth itch
