hey guys i had a big show recently and the sound guy only took 1 xlr out straight into the desk. i asked if he could take two xlr out but he said no because it was only going through one channel. now my questions is.. does it affect the sound thats coming out from the axe? most of my presets are stereo and I'm just wondering if taking one xlr will change the sound that is coming out through the house? should i change my presets to mono in the cab block?

Depends, depends...

It doesn't affect your signal:

- if the signal going out of the grid is mono
- if your Output Mode is set to Sum L+R or Copy L > R.

Many times you won't hear much of a difference either if your output signal is stereo.

It does affect your signal if your output signal is stereo and:

- you have have different Left and Right settings in the Cab block and Left and Right are not panned center
- if you're using an effect that's hard-panned to one or both sides, such as Ping Pong Delay.

It can be tricky since the routing in the AxeFx is so flexible.

output 1 and output 2 L/R can all be discrete depending on the preset.

I like to run down all of my presets and scenes, efx changes with just the output 1 L connected, just as a sanity check.

Then I can use output 1 L without any surprises :)

I always build my presets to work in mono. SO many PA systems are mono anyway. And even if they aren't quite a bit of an audience may not be seated in an area where stereo works. If half my audience can't hear an awesome sounding stereo preset, what's the point of it?

I learned my lesson early on. Fed a stereo feed to FOH and because the system was mono (in a large venue 40,000 watts of flown line array) it got summed to Mono. Half my presets had no delay at all because of the cancellation. As soon as they muted one of my inputs, Voila instant delay.

The next day I checked all my presets to be sure they would work with a left only feed.
