midi out quits working

Today i want to do a backup of my presets because of a little beta testing
But the Ultra sends no data. Already changed midi cabel and tasted the same thing with another midi interface,... still nothing.
On the other hand data receive isn´t a problem. Installing Firmware and sending midi data out of the editor to the Ultra works fine.
I am still hoping this is fault of mine. I dont wanna send the Ultra to G66. There is no life without the Ultra

Is there any possibility to measure the midi out? If there is a possibility what do I have to measure?
Or maybe you´ve got an idea what i do wrong now. In former times the midi out workes fine. Last test about 2 months ago.

System: Vista Business, Midi Interface Edirol UM 2-ex or Motu 828 mkII,
Software: The Ultra-Editor or Bome´s SendSX

Thanks for your help.

I know it's a cheap advice but did you make sure that you connected the right ports, i.e. midi out on the AFx?
Happened to me more than once...

And make sure, that the midi-in connector is plugged in properly. There are 3 possibilities with 7pin / 5pin. I know, what I'm sayin ...

MIDI out on the AXE can only use 5 pin.
What utility are you using to receive the data>
Are you sure it is set to receive the data on the device you are using?

 Ooops, should read the posts more carefully. Thought, that getting the firmware into the axe was the problem, sorry ...

Yes, that happend to me more than once too ;) , but the 5-pin midi cable is connected in the right way.

Utilities are the Axe-Editor or Bomes SendSx. The last one is a kind of programm that lists any kind of received data about the midi input in a window. In former times this was the way i saved my patches to the pc. It worked very well.
Tested the Programm allready with other midi sending devices connected to my midi device Edirol UM-2ex . It displays all received data right. So i think its not a failure of the midi advice.

Today i do another test. Connected the midi out of the axe directly to midi in. After sending the patch data, it displays that the patch was edited. But,... whats the meaning of this?

The edited light goes anytime something changes. Probably completely normal. I've never noticed one way or the other, but I wouldn't worry about that. Does your eridol have a light that lights up when it receives MIDI traffic. If it does, does it show activity from the Axe-fx?

Yes the edirol have a status LED. But there is no blinking while sending midi data from the axe.
The LED works, because it blinks while sending midi data from the keyboard to pc.

Strange, isnt it? Or simply a damaged midi out.

Well, if you tried known good cables, hooked up the cables correctly, know the activity light is working on the eridol, and a sending the dump from the axe-fx; then, the Axe-fx MIDI out problem looks like a good possibility.

Yes, it seems you´re right. But i still wishing its a failure of mine.
Dont want to give my ultra away. :|

Thanx for helping.

Ok Guys.
After asking google i found out that between pin-5 and pin-2 of a 5-pin midi-out cable there is ordinary a voltage about 5V, even you send data or not.
Tasted this with my midi interface and it seems to be right. Do the same test with the axe. There are only about 3.3V.
I am not a technician. Maybe anyone can tell me now if there is a damage.
But if there is, i think i cant measure anything, means 0V??

I hope i dont getting you on the nerves with my questions. if so, sorry. But were´re gigging whole november so i can´t send it for fixing.

Thanks Cliff,

After your Message I bought another midi-device today. It works.
But I am still wondering how my UM 2ex receives messages from the axe about 2 months ago and today there isn´t even a blinking LED. But receiving data from a Keyboard ins´t futhermore a problem, strange.

But thanks for make me happy again and again and again. ;-)
