Midi in and FAS Link

Quick question - lots of searching and didn't find the answer.
Can I use the midi in port on the MFC along with FAS Link? I'd be using it on a different channel and I read about no phantom power obviously. Pretty sure the answer is no. Confirmation?

What's the goal with this setup?

The MFC doesn't have MIDI thru function. The MIDI In port would only allow remote selection of MFC presets. The manual doesn't mention whether selecting expansion/FASlink disables the MIDI in port.

using a separate midi controller to switch channels on my amp. So extra controller midi out > mfc midi in> FAS Link to XL> XL midi out into amp Midi in.

Not possible then; second controller needs direct connection to amp.
