MIDI amp channel switching only on lift up of switch, not press down?

I run a Diezel VH4 with my FX8. My VH4 amp does not switch channels when I press the button down, only when I lift up. So, when I press the button down it doesn't switch but as soon as I lift my foot up from pressing the button it switches. This is problematic because it's extremely hard to get the timing right when it doesn't switch on the press down.

Does anyone else have this problem? Did anyone find a solution to it?

Ok so I just did some research and it looks like if I disable X/Y that the amp change might be on "press down" instead of "release".

Anyone know if this is true?

yes. if any switch has a HOLD function, the switch will do the action on the release of the switch, because it has to wait to see if you're going to hold or not.
