You need to set up an Aggregate Device in your MAC, and then select that aggregate device in your DAW as the input and output.

Your mac has inputs and outputs, and the axe fx has inputs and outputs. If you select the axe for your input, you are turning off the Mac's built in inputs, and vice versa.

So, an aggregate device is your own virtual device, where you choose both inputs, and outputs, and then you can have both selected at the same time if you need to.

You can google or youtube how to set up an aggregate audio device on a Mac.

When you set it up, you could name it APE's device. Then when you open the audio preferences in your DAW it is going to have choices for input and output of "built in", "axe fx", or "APE's Device", and of course, you'll choose Ape's device so you can use all your stuff at the same time.
