Metallica and Axe-Fx III

After a break of two months, Metallica starts today the new leg of the european tour. I’d say they’ll be using the Axe III.

Look forward to seeing videos of these shows, specially of the tuning room sessions, as in those you can often hear really well the guitars, sometimes even in isolation. Sure its gonna be killer!!

From personal experience, I'd say that you don't mess with the tour rig until you have enough time to build the racks and properly test them, meaning in the buildup to a tour. Things have a tendency to... happen... otherwise. Next time around I'm sure they'll be using them!

I wouldn't be so sure. They just bought a whole lot of II's not so long ago and from what I've read they are completely happy with them, and seeing them live they have the Metallica sound dialed in to perfection, its makes zero sense to buy the III now or ever IMO.

I’m guessing they hold off for awhile. I bet they have them but not using them yet. I wonder if @Admin M@ will be paying the Metallica guys a visit in the future?

Youd be surprised how much big time touring bands dont update their rigs until much later. Id say Metallica most certainly will not be using 3's

Metallica are now using AXE-FX III.

Check out the “Metallica: Thank You, Lisbon!” YouTube Video @ 0:48 seconds.

Edit: Shows Rob’s bass rig, but Justin’s comments in his posts prove that Kirk (and presumably James) have also upgraded.

Will the AxeFX III make them make decent albums again like in the 80's?

Made me chuckle....

Not to pile on, however, I saw them in Grand Rapids March 13th and I gotta say, it was not great...

FOH-wise it sounded good with guitar tones, vocals and overall mix. But man, Lars was literally never in the pocket... I love the band, it was a great experience and show, but the BPM, tempo, and hooks were just not good at all from a drumming perspective. I left frustrated...

I know I'll get flack for those comments, but I have videos of Sad But True and Enter Sandman that just sped up, slowed down, was frankly, all over the place. No lie, I would not attend their show again... #SnobbyRantOver

For us Metallica tech's it would be WONDERFUL! We're here migrating from the IIXL+'s to the III's, and the additional amp block would be a complete game changer for our rigs. We've talked to a few people at Fractal about this, but just throwing in our vote in this thread!!

Lovin v3.01!!!

This post confirms Metallica are now using the AXE-FX III.

It was posted back in February, so I guess they were in the process of upgrading, ready for the latest leg of the tour.

There was a post about when they just updated to a new firmware before the show ...

Levipeto, it was by Kirk’s guitar tech Justin, as mentioned in Chad Beattie’s earlier post.

Thank you Mr Cliff Chase, I have been struggling with the clarity of the mids and upwards distracting from the Chug, Not bad , Just different. I use the Recto model a LOT, I will be installing 5 Beta in the am and hopefully, if this forum is to be trusted and it usually is, We will be live on 5, in Grand Rapids Michigan tomorrow.

Thanks Fractal Team

P.S. Firmware update, No soundcheck, Live in front of 20K ish fans....Gulp!
