Matching volume levels - amp level vs output level

Is there any difference if I set the overall patch volume with the amp block level controls vs using the final output level (not the physical knob) adjustment? My guess is that since there are cabs and fx after the amp block it'd be better to use the output level since it's after all the blocks...

if you are tying to match levels across the presets you are playing- yes, the output mixer is a good place to do that.

FWIW... A lot of that will depend on what type of amp sims you are trying to equalize. For some reason the clean tones require more level in the sim to get the same over all output volume. I would start with an undistorted Preset first to establish the amp sim level relative the overall volume you need. Then work your way to dirty tones to get a volume balance then fine tune the over all output with the main output knob(s).
