A band I'm playing in, is currently considering switching to mashups, and mashups only.
It's fun when done right (not a medley).
Also, people's (audience) attention span gets shorter and shorter these days.
Mashups are a creative way to deal with that.

I've been playing in a live Mashup band for about 7 years here in Austin, called More Cowbell. Its always great when we are hired to play a corporate gig or Wedding and watching people's reaction to what they are hearing. By the end of the night everyone is into it playing off beat cowbells on stage, lol.

I've been listening to Go Home Productions do crazy cool things for years now. He always knocks it out of the park: Mark Vidler / Go Home Productions

And if you've never heard of Danger Mouses' The Grey Album, it's pretty cool. He mashed up the Beatles White Album with Jay Z's Black Album and got a whole new Grey Album.
