Madonna - Like A Prayer - guitar sound?

Mark Cullen

I'm wanting to recreate this incredible clean funky sound in Madonna's Like A Prayer song. I believe it was Dann Huff.

I'm thinking maybe direct with a strat on position 2 or 4, with some chorus and of course, compression.

Any suggestions for compression settings especially to get that super squishy and yet percussive and up front sound?

Might be straight into the board direct with no amp at all. That was fairly common for that super spanky, direct funk style clean sound. They'd run a clean DI track through compressors and EQ and keep it very dry for that in your face cut.
