Long USB-cable for Axe-FX II

Hi everyone,

Lately I've been redoing my whole room and my new setup requires a longer cable to connect my Axe-FX II with my iMac. I have an old 5m usb-extension cable, but when I use this to connect my Axe-FX II I get notting but noise and dropouts. As I use my Axe-FX a lot for recording directly, I'm in need of a 7m good quality USB A-B cable with good shielding.

Is it even viable to use a 6 to 7m (around 22 feet) cable for recording?

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Didier

Perso j'utilise un cable USB + rallonge ( vieille ) et j'ai pas de souci

I had the same problem when I tried a USB Extension cable, mine had a little box inline with some electronics.... Worked fine for a printer but audio was a no go... I bought a dedicated cable, can't remember exactly how long but certainly more than 5 metres and it is just an ebay one... Nothing audiophile "snake oil" about it ..... And it has worked fine since... Mac Driver bug still caused me an issue.... But that is there with a short cable too.

Thanks for the quick response! I'm glad that a long cable can work fine in a recording environment. I guess I'm going to browse Ebay this afternoon! ;)

I have no idea if this would work, but I needed to span a bit longer distance and bought an adapter set to send USB over a CAT5 network cable. It worked flawlessly for scanner data room to room, but not sure if it would do the same for audio throughput.

Just an idea.
