Live backing tracks through monitor(s)?

I know you can easily use a laptop with the USB connection and audio out, but what are some other ways you can have recorded sound play through your Axe-Fx II rig? Would an MP3 player connected to a mixer work?

Hi. My monitors have xlr & RCA inputs. I use axe->xlr & mp3 player to RCA. Mackie mr8 monitors. Cheers.

Connect the MPs to I/P 2 on the AFX. Put an FX Return block in followed by shunts to the end running parallel to the main signal chain. If you need more control of volume/pan, merge the two signal chains into a mixer block in the last space. That should route your MP3 signal via the AXF outs along with you guitar sound. if its not loud enough, put the "tube Pre" amp block in the line.

I use a Digitech Jamman through a DI to FOH for samples and interludes with my band....works really well and can be controlled at your feet.

Good idea somata. We used to play samples in between songs whilst we tuned. Beer commercials, comedy and porno sounds. Peoples loved it!

+1

I currently use this method to "fly" samples in through my FRFR bass rig. Works great...less gear is a good thing.

I have a drum machine connected to Input 2, the meters of input 2 show there's a signal coming through but I can't hear anything.
What am I doing wrong?

Feedback return isn't the block to use; that's for routing within the Axe layout in combination with the feedback send.

Place the Effects Loop (FXL) block in any unused space in the last column. No connections to FXL from the previous column are needed. Signal at In 2 will be output from the FXL block and go to Output 1.

Thanks for pointing out my mistake.
I mistook FR for FXL.
I'll try again tonight.
Thanks!
