John Petrucci Patch Thread

Hi Guys,

To celebrate the fact that John Petrucci is now using the Axe-FX as part of his rig (woo hoo!) I thought I would start a thread to bring together all of the Petrucci patches people have created and are using.

There are a few different patches spread across the forum (including some of my own), but if people think it is a good idea, it would be great to get everyone's contributions in one place.

I must admit I am still struggling to get a decent Petrucci style rhythm patch (finding it much easier to nail the lead tones) and would be over the moon if I was able to finally pick up a rhythm patch that hit this tone!

I am playing around with a few patches at the moment, and hope to have them up here soon, but how about it Petrucci fans - show us what you have got?

Feel free to post sysex files, written out settings and/or recordings of you shredding and riffing with your patch.

I think it would be helpful if you could provide some details with your patches such as which song/album/era you are trying to nail, if it is a rhythm or lead patch, which firmware it was built for and any other details that will help others to best use the patch.

Feel free to post clean petrucci tones as well!

Hopefully this thread takes off....

Regards,

Hi Vidaraus, I quote my post from the other thread:

Hi guys,
Since I'm not really a good tweaker and I'd rather prefer playing than using afternoons turning knobs on the axe, I would like to ask for someone's help.
I'd like to have done a rhythm patch based on Petrucci's Mark IIC+ sound.
Here's some examples:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OaJpgVBxKi8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4z6vpiXQJNA (at 4:20)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4oA3nuxs7E

The sounds I end up doing always feel too much boxy, or buzzy, or bassy, or fizzy.
I can't find the balance and the right EQ to have this tight, crunchy and defined distortion.
I did a pretty good Solo patch but can't do the same for the rhythm one, I hope you can help me!

I see we agree on the difficulty of creating a good rhythm patch :)
Later I will put on my Lead Mark IV patch !

Here's what I have so far...both use a Redwirez Mesa Boogie IR, don't remember which one...how can I see which custom IRs I currently have in the Axe-Fx? I used the Cali cab at first, but the Redwirez sounds MUCH better.

Sounds pretty close through my Atomic!
