Is the input impedance real or simulated?

I am curious if, when we change the input impedance on an input, does the real input impedance actually physically change - or is it a modeled change??? It sure feels real!!!

Thanks Hubertus! Here is the passage from the Wiki:

Variable input impedance changes the analog circuitry of the input jack to interact with the guitar pickup. It recreates the way that some classic effects “load down” pickups, causing a change in frequency response.

So it is a real analog change to the input circuitry... One thing I learned is that the AUTO feature changes the Z based on the first effect in the chain as if it was a real pedal board in front of your amp - not based on the amp model necessarily if the amp is not first.

The only reason to change input impedance is to change the impedance that your guitar sees. If it didn’t actually do that, it would do nothing.
