Is MacKeeper safe to use?

I allowed it to do a scan of my laptop, and now it's asking me to allow it to continue and remove "junk and duplicated files and whatnot." Is this kosher or a scam to buy their product? Thanks in advance for any help/info. :):):)

Just assume that anything that shows up in a pop-up in 2018 and beyond is a scam. You just allowed them to have a look at every bit of personally identifiable information your computer contains.

They try to sell the thing through porn sites. Must be legit.

Anyways. You don't need all these "cleaners" for macOS. Any house keeping is done by the OS itself.

I use CleanMyMac which is great. I run the smart clean mode once in a while, which cleans temp files, mail attachments system junk etc.

No need to clean your mac if you use a good anti-malware, anti-virus. I use "BitDefender" and it works great...can't tell it's running, it has tons of stuff my wife got into on her mac. It also provides a browser plugin for warning on unsafe sites and it provides ransomware protection.

Thanks everyone for all the responses! I'll steer clear of it. ;)

If you need a downloader thats the first sign to leave it alone!
The first sign really is whether you can find it on the Mac App Store. If not, dig heavily into reviews from places like Mac Insider, CultOfMac, MacWorld and MacRumors. Takes your cues from there.

BTW Tom I love your avatar, even if it is somewhat disturbing LOL.

I've long traded concert recordings for jam bands I love and the community uses downloaders almost exclusively to handle distribution. Even the official releases for concerts from The Dead, Phish, etc. from nugs.net use a custom downloader from Nugs to get the files to your computer.
