IRs of bare speakers?

I've recently been messing around with one of the new Celestion F12-X200 speakers in an old ADA cabinet and it got me wondering if there would be any advantage to using an IR that was created using a speaker that is not mounted in a cabinet. It seems that any standard IR includes some amount of cabinet response and then feeding that into another standard style guitar cab is going to increase that effect. Any thoughts or does anyone know of any IRs like this?

Did you ever wire up a speaker not loaded in a cab, mic it and listen back?

Then did you ever load the same speaker in a cab, mic it and listen back?

There's a bit of physics behind how cab design shapes the sound of a speaker. Remove the cab from the equation and, unless you are burying that speaker back in earth in lab conditions, that speaker is going to use the room you are shooting in as its "cab". The results will not be as pleasant as you may think.

The disadvantages outweigh any perceived benefits.
