IR levels?

Trying to blend two IRs in the FM3, it seems as though the level control does nothing.. what am I missing?
 
so, if I was to mute one cab and go from 0DB to neg 40 on the other cab I should expect not to hear a drastic drop in volume? The self leveling feature overrides that?

Correct. It might sound different because of the effect of the IR on the signal, but the signal strength will be the same.

It's effectively a balance control between each IR in the block, but it's labeled "Level".
 
What if IR's aren't normalized? I have some IRs that have peak 8-12 dB below 0. Should I normalize them? (sorry to hijack, perhaps it's related?)
