I’ve had the IIXL+ for almost 3 years and it was a number of versions before Quantum kicked in.
And I have not noticed any dramatic change from version to version.
But I recently had a moment with the Axe where I was using patch 99...studio clean?
First I was getting my jollies off with a Tele but then I switched to the Gibson L5.
IT sounded very good as well...and then it hit me...and this was what I remembered with my tube amps.
(same amp...different guitars...still great sound)
In effect in the beginning, although I could get a great sound from a guitar and a patch with the axe, something was not right when I plugged in a different kind of guitar...it was more adjustment than would normally be needed. So this is significant, no?
As an aside, the L5, for which I could not find the right starting point in any of the patches early on, well I was completely smitten with this simple patch...99. And that was the aftershock of this experiment.
