I'm a noob with the FC6

Good morning everyone,
I'm trying to understand these layouts. I come from using an AX8 and for each preset I could make each switch whatever I wanted, but now I'm struggling to figure out how to do this with the FC6.

I currently on the PRESETS layout, and every preset I use has the exact same label on each switch. Is there a way to use it like my AX8 where I can just set each switch to whatever I want for each preset?

My apologies for me being a noob with this and many thanks in advance for any help I can get on this.

Yes indeed there is! You want to use the feature Per Preset FC. That will allow you to assign any switch to do whatever you like.

When you click on that you'll get this:

From there you can assign a function from everything from turning on the tuner, switching to a different block, channel, scene etc.

It is the most incredibly powerful feature on the FC. You can have 24 different custom assignments for each preset.

Many thanks for the response. So I basically have to assign each one of these something and then use that in each preset? So am I limited to just 24 then? Maybe 24 isn't a big deal for most people, but I think I'm going to run out eventually.

I'll be honest I was kind of hoping there was maybe a Layout that would just let me assign each switch whatever I wanted kind of like how I was able to on my AX8. I use my Axe 3 at church on stage and we have a huge list of songs that we play. Most songs need their own kind of setup.

I don't think you'll run out. Remember, that's 24 different things you can assign in each individual preset. And you can assign Tap and Hold for each, so it's 48 in a way.

But to your other point, you can create your own Layout and assign switches that way. I personally use the Scenes layout, since Scenes are already such a powerful feature. I tweaked the Scenes layout a little bit. For instance, I assigned the Hold function in switch 6 to Tuner so that's always available, and similarly assigned switch 3 to go to the Preset layout on Hold. For some presets I have I want the Tap available so I'll add a Per Preset switch for that.

A good basic overview is from Leon Todd, aka @2112

oh sweet I think I understand now!!!
I usually like to use scenes but everyone and then like just turn on one effect. I suppose I can do that in another scene, but it is nice to have a mixture.

Something strange though. Maybe I need to update to 1.12 on the FC. I changed switch 4 to be the next song (preset +1), but when I saved it and looked at my FC6 on the floor it doesn't show then name of the next song like I put in the per-preset 4. Is this a bug maybe?

My apologies for being a noob again. I'm just trying to understand the changes :)

I'll try to watch that video soon. Gotta get to work.

I don't know if that's a bug, but definitely be on the latest firmware.

Do you always want switch 4 to go up one preset? If so, you want to edit the layout:

One small edit: on the image above, I had the preset +1 function as Hold. You'd probably want it as Tap.
